WHAT’S THE i IN DiSC?

Enthusiastic, excitable, fast paced and people focused, the i Style person is the outgoing bubbly person, always first to say ‘hi’, to speak up and always willing to jump on a project and try something new, even if they don’t quite have all the details yet.

The i Style craves recognition, and goes about achieving this by speaking up, putting themselves out there and generating high levels of energy which they find invigorating. Because of this, they fear a loss of influence, to be disregarded or overlooked.

i Style people are fast paced but also people focused, accepting and warm natured. Like the D Style, the i Style still enjoys control over others, however where the D Style is using this control to achieve their primary focus of results, the i Style enjoys control of others to ensure they can maintain their influence over others and make those human connections.

How to work effectively with them:

  1. Maintain an enthusiastic and positive approach.  The i style is drained by people with a negative attitude, or those with low energy or an overly slow, logical approach to tasks.
  2. Don’t overload them with information.  Even though the i Style moves quickly themselves they often get caught up in the big picture and skim the details, so you must ensure they are retaining the detail without being bored by it.
  3. Make sure they feel heard and get to have their say.  Because their ability to influence others is so important to the i Style, if they are not able to demonstrate this by having their say and feeling heard, i Styles will develop negative feelings towards a project, person or task. However, feeling as though their voice is important and recognised will make them feel like a valuable member of the team and help to get the most out of them!
